1. Overview of Activities

Date: Tuesday, July 1, 2025

Place: Embassy of Canada to the Republic of Korea

2. Key Details

On July 1, 2025, students from the Department of Political Science and International Relations visited the Canadian Embassy in Korea, where they engaged in meaningful discussions with embassy officials and representatives from the UNHCR Korea Office. The visit included a tour of the embassy facilities and lunch, which provided opportunities for meaningful dialogue and networking. In addition, in-depth discussions were held on practical issues related to expanding access to higher education for youth from conflict zones, including the introduction of complementary pathways in South Korea, collaboration with various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the role of university students in supporting these initiatives.

4. Outcome and Key Takeaways

Visiting the Canadian Embassy in Korea and engaging in conversations with practitioners inspired us to pursue broader goals and recognize new possibilities. It also provided a valuable starting point for exploring how university students and student organizations can make meaningful contributions to Korea’s refugee policies in the future.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Jaeik Jang, Programme Officer at UNHCR Korea; Nayoung Gam, Legal Associate at UNHCR Korea; Idania Riley, Coulsellor(Migration) at the Embassy of Canada; and Juyoung Kim, Intern at UNHCR Korea, for generously sharing their time and insights
